Q: What do $PMTK010 (PMTK_SYS_MSG) and $PMTK011 command packets mean?

After the following events

  • power-on
  • hot restart (PMTK_CMD_HOT_START)
  • warm restart (PMTK_CMD_WARM_START)
  • cold restart (PMTK_CMD_COLD_START)
  • full cold restart (PMTK_CMD_FULL_COLD_START)
the GlobalTop GPS modules/receivers based on the Mediatek MT3329 chip will output the following sentences as soon as the start-up process or restart process has been completed and the module/receiver is ready to process commands:

Quote
$PMTK011,MTKGPS*08<CR><LF>
$PMTK010,001*2E<CR><LF>

We recommend you not to send any command to the module/receiver before you get the sentences listed above.

If you detect only
Quote$PMTK011,MTKGPS*08<CR><LF>
or only
Quote$PMTK010,001*2E<CR><LF>
then it is possible that some packets has been missed.
