Title: Digilent programming/ debugging solutions
Post by: Phil_142 on March 22, 2011, 01:59:01 PM
I need to program and debug an ARC600 processor inside a Virtex-5 FPGA via JTAG. The Software will be Metaware IDE from Synopsys which is said to be compatible to Digilent solutions.
What is the difference between JTAG-USB Full Speed Module and XUP USB-JTAG Programming Cable (despite having a different connector)?
Can I use these solutions to debug my processor (including set of breakpoints, stepping, register read/write, etc.)?

XUP USB-JTAG Programming Cable is compatible to HW-USB from Xilinx, and works with all Xilinx Tools like Impact, Chipscope, XMD and others. It does not work with Digilent Adept Suite.
JTAG-USB Full Speed Module works with Digilent Adept Suite. Currently there exists some plugins for certain Xilinx tools, please take a look here:

I do not know the Metaware IDE, so I cannot help you here. If Synopsis claims to be compatible to Digilent, they should know to which cables they are compatible.
