Bank supply voltages
« on: October 04, 2018, 05:02:37 PM »
I am designing a board that will have the following module on it: te0820-02-04cg-1ea.  My question is in regards to the bank supply voltages.  I will supply 3.3V (with min 4A current capacity) for the Vin and 3.3Vin power rails as recommended in the TRM.  The trenz module then provides an output voltage of 1.8 via JM1-39.  Does this 1.8V have the current capacity to then be used to power the various voltage banks (VCCIO64-66)?  I can't find any specs on its current rating.  Or is this simply there for monitoring?  Thank you for your time.

Hi,

depends on the IO Standard and power consumption of your design (can be estimated with Xilinx power estimator).
We have only this power power dependencies diagram with theoretical max current for every regulator. Current is also limited with B2B connector specification.
If you are not sure if it's enough for your application, you can use 1.8V output as enable for an additional power regulator or power switch on your carrier.

John, Thanks for the response.  I know that the B2B connector has a 2amp max rating on the pin.  But what isn't clear to me is whether or not the 1.8V output that is on the B2B connector has the 3.0amp max limit that is shown in Figure 3 on that link.  If it does then my power needs will be met comfortably.  But it isn't clear that the 1.8V listed there is the same as the 1.8 at the B2B connector with the same specs.

Hi David,

1.8V is the only available 1.8V power supply on the module and is used for different device:
It's used for PS, DDR, SI5338, ETH PHY, USB PHY...

B2B connector 2amps max rating is for 2 adjacent pins. 1.8V B2B output is only connected to one pins, so it's appr. max 1 amp or a little less.

So use external 1.8V power supply for the banks and the 1.8V output to enable the this power supply, if you are not sure, that's the current is enough for your periphery.
