Availability of FPGA modules

Hi,

I've been following the availability of Trenz FPGA modules on the webshop for a while and the situation is pretty dire. I am considering product development using one of your modules (probably something from the TE08xx series) but I am not encouraged by the availability statements:

It would be useful to have a bit of background on what's happening here, and an outline towards future availability of these modules.

Furthermore, is there an overall explanation for why there are differently-sized modules (in particular 4x5 vs 5.2x7.6 cm)? Are some of these sizes older or more recent, or is there any specific reason to specify one size over the other?

Hi,

It would be useful to have a bit of background on what's happening here, and an outline towards future availability of these modules.

Due to Corona and the associated component crisis, almost all FPGA modules had very long waiting times, as we were no longer able to obtain the necessary components in a timely manner. Currently, the situation is easing, but we still have to process the open orders, so we currently have some series no / barely stock.
You can inquire at sales@trenz-electronic.de about the current delivery times for the modules you are interested in.

Furthermore, is there an overall explanation for why there are differently-sized modules (in particular 4x5 vs 5.2x7.6 cm)? Are some of these sizes older or more recent, or is there any specific reason to specify one size over the other?
Different requirements, Larger FPGAs/SoC, more IOs...Always depends on what you need.

You can inquire at sales@trenz-electronic.de about the current delivery times for the modules you are interested in.

Unfortunately, that's a bit of a catch-22, since I cannot commit to hardware development using any of these modules unless I have some indication if/when overall availability will be back to normal.

Some statement on that would be useful; I realize you have no crystal ball but at least on your side you should have a better feel for how the supply chain situation is developing. Are we talking months, years? Or is there really no way to know?

I can't say when which variant will be in the shop. In doubt  you can always select custom assembly variant and we must always check the delivery time.
You must write to sales@trenz-electronic.de  to ask for expected delivery time, that's nothing what we can tell you inside this forum. Sorry.

Hi,we are talking about month, not years. At the moment, we have plenty of raw material in stock and ramping up production.Nevertheless, we recommend all customers to plan for at least 6 month delivery time and good planning for future needs.

You can sent your technical needs, then we can check which suitable module will be available first.
