TE0808: Identify the exact ProdID/Partname

Hi all,
I am working on a Trenz TE0808 Starter Kit which I can successfully use with Vivado 2017.3 using as prodid/partname: TE0808-ES1 / xczu9eg-ffvc900-1-i-es1 .

Now, I would like to try a newer Vivado version such as the 2018.3 or 2019.1, but as far as I understood Vivado 2019.1 is not yet supported (right?).

Anyhow, trying Vivado 2018.3, I found that inside the TE0808_board_files.csv shipped in TE0808-SK0808_zusys_SDSoC-vivado_2018.2-build_03_20181106095111.zip the first engineering samples (prodid: TE0808-ES1) are marked as not supported by Xilinx Vivado 2018.2 and newer.

So, my question is: how can I identify the exact Prodid/Partname of the compute module installed on the machine I am using? I inherited the project configured to use TE0808-ES1 / xczu9eg-ffvc900-1-i-es1 but how can I be sure that these correspond to the actual hardware installed? On the motherboard I can read "TEBF0808-04", while on the compute module I can read "TE0808-03", but this code seems not to be specific to a single model.

Thanks,

Enrico

Hi,

Xilinx stop support for ES1 for U+Zynq since Vivado 2017.4 or 2018.1 (i'm not sure, on 2018.2 it was definitely not longer supported and we have offer the last reference design for es1 for 2017.4).

TE0808-03 was from the beginning of our U+ series. This article number was used for ES1 devices assembled.
In case you want to be on the save side,  you can send me the serial number (number on the white sticker with QR code on the module and on the carrier) and I can check which FPGA is assembled on your module.

Hi,
if I correctly interpreted the -03 printed on the computing module as being the REV number, and the TE0808_board_files.csv, I guess there is a chance I am using an ES2:

ID   ,PRODID            ,PARTNAME                        ,PCB_REV         ,NOTES
#1  ,TE0808-ES1     ,xczu9eg-ffvc900-1-i-es1   ,REV03|REV02 ,"Not longer supported by vivado"
#2  ,TE0808-ES1     ,xczu9eg-ffvc900-1-i-es1   ,REV03|REV02 ,"Not longer supported by vivado"
3   ,TE0808-ES2      ,xczu9eg-ffvc900-1-i-es2    ,REV04|REV03  ,"Slower DDR Speed"
4   ,TE0808-ES2      ,xczu9eg-ffvc900-1-i-es2    ,REV04|REV03  ,"Slower DDR Speed"
5   ,TE0808-2ES2    ,xczu9eg-ffvc900-2-i-es2    ,REV04|REV03  ,"Slower DDR Speed"
6   ,TE0808-2ES2    ,xczu9eg-ffvc900-2-i-es2    ,REV04|REV03  ,"Slower DDR Speed"

So, if could confirm the ES number it would be great.

The number close to the QR code, on the compute module is: 477470, while on the carrier is: 476694

Thanks,

Enrico

Hi,
your 477470 is TE0808-03ES2. So you can use ES2 design.

Put at the end you should switch to production series. ES are engineer samples that can happens known and unknown bug.  Xilinx has some lists with known issues for different ES variants, is the past this list for ES variants was only available on request.

For production version, the list is public:

Great,
Thanks very much... I succeeded to use Vivado 2018.3 and run the bitstream on the board.

Do you know if/when TE0808-ES2 board files will be released also for Vivado 2019?

Thanks,

Enrico

JH

Hi,
sorry I don't know. I didn't installed 19.1 until now. I did not final decide if I update reference designs with 19.1 or 19.3 which comes as next.
You can try out, install and check if it's available.

But I think ES2 support for ZynqMP will be stopped in one of the vivado versions.

Hi,
to work with 2018.3 I just copied the TE0808-ES2 board files from your reference design zip file into the /opt/Xilinx/Vivado/2018.3/data/boards/board_files/ folder.
If I copy the same files in the 2019.1 folder, it seems the board files get ignored, thus I guess they need to be updated in some way. I probably do not know enough about how these files work.

Did you have in mind other things I could try out?

JH

Hi,
you can check one time if you has also ES installed.

In case you has, than ES is not longer included and Xilinx has stopped support.
You can also double check in case you select the FPGA manually. Is the ES2 not longer available in the part list, Xilinx support has stopped.
